Q. If I touch a ghost pepper with bare hands will it burn my skin?
A. Yes! We highly recommend that you use latex gloves when handling the peppers or the seeds. Also, use plastic utensils when cutting the peppers because the oil can stay on metal utensils for several washings.

Q. What should I expect when eating the ghost pepper?
A. The ghost pepper is unlike any other chili we have eaten. The first flavor you will notice is an intense sweet chili flavor, the heat does not kick in for 30 - 45 seconds. Once the heat kicks in, a whole host of things will occur. Sweating, watery eyes, hiccups and shortness of breath are likely side effects, but the endorphine rush will make you forget all about it. The burning generally intensifies over 10 - 15 minutes and subsides after 30 - 40 minutes.

Q. What can I do to stop this mindblowing, just absolutely crazy freaking burning that is happening in my face?
A. Ice cream, ice cream and more ice cream. Milk works too, but we have found that the flavor milk is somewhat unpleasant. Anything carbonated is definitely a bad idea.

Q. Can I grow ghost peppers from the seeds that are in the peppers I bought?
A. Maybe, The peppers that we sell whole are not isolated from our other pepper varieties. So the seeds in the peppers that you bought are very likely to be a hybrid. You can grow the seeds but the peppers that result will not be true bhut jolokia, but they could always be an interesting cross-breed so I encourage you to do so.

Q. The seeds that you sell, are they going to produce a cross-breed?
A. No, the seeds we sell are from plants that have been isolated, there is very little chance they will be hybrids. Always check with you seed suppliers to make sure that they can ensure true genetics.

Q. Are there special instructions for germinating and starting the bhut jolokia seeds/plants?
A. Yes, the seeds should be soaked overnight before sowing. Seeds should be kept at 80-85 degrees F in a 70-90% relative humidity. Sprouts will be seen in 10 -15 days but may take as many as 30. Once plants have reached 2 inches they need to be transplanted if growing in seed starters. Young plants can tolerate cool temperatures but they will be much happier in a warm, humid greenhouse. This plant grows very slowly so be patient and do not attempt to rush it to flower.

Q. Will you refund or replace seeds if they do not germinate?
A. No, since we cannot germinate the seeds for you we cannot guarantee your success. We do guarantee that our seeds are viable but this pepper is NOT recommended for the novice gardener. You must have a very controlled environment in order to have success. Dixie cup + potting soil + desk lamp does not constitute a controlled environment. We like to be as helpful as possible with the growing process so if you have specific questions feel free to contact us!

Q. How often should I water my bhut jolokia plants?
A. My general rule of thumb is to water them once the soil has dryed pretty well. Constantly moist soil may breed fungi that this plant is not tolerant against.

Q. What kind of ferilizer should I use on my bhut jolokia plants?
A. We recommend a balanced ( i.e. 10-10-10 ) fertilizer from start to finish with this plant. Chili plants do not generally benefit any more from a flowering blend of fertilizer.
