We are estimating that availability of fresh ghost peppers will begin next month, Mother Nature permitting. Trinidad Scorpion peppers will be available starting in July. We now have 7 Pot (Douglah) seeds available for those of you who have been waiting. We have tasted the Douglah and we have been amazed at how much hotter it is than the ghost pepper! We will be tasting the first Trinidad Scorpions later this week if we can muster up the courage. We are very sorry to say, but our grower in Florida has suffered a complete crop loss. Though we had planned to begin offering fresh peppers this month, it is just not going to be possible this year. We are currently estimating availability to begin in June. We will still have red, yellow and chocolate Ghost Peppers and Trinidad Scorpion peppers, we should know in the next two months if any other varieties will be available. Once we start seeing peppers on the plants, we will starting taking reservations for orders. We will starting taking names for the waiting list some time next month. Let us thank everyone for their continued patience. With the recent media coverage about the Naga Viper being the new record holder for hottest chili in the world, we felt the need to express our opinion on the matter. This is not the first time that the bhut jolokia has had a challenger to its title. In fact, the same facility that tested the Naga Viper also claimed to have tested the Infinity Chili a couple of years ago at just over 1.1 million Scoville units. The Infinity Chili did not prove to be a stable hybrid capable of producing the same heat consistently and ended up averaging around 800,000 Scoville units. The Naga Viper is also a hybrid. Time will only tell if it will be able to hold up to the same standard at which New Mexico State University tested the bhut jolokia. We honestly believe that after further testing the Naga Viper will not actually prove to be hotter than the Ghost Pepper. With environmental conditions playing such a large part in the heat in each individual pepper, we would not be surprised if some of our peppers would test at well over 1.4 million SHU, and surely some would be tested at below the 1,001,304 SHU the Guinness labeled the Ghost Pepper at. This number is an average over hundreds of tested peppers. Only time will tell who the true champion is, but for the time being, our peppers are still the hottest you are going to be able to get your hands on!
